Gaston County has 15th Confirmed Rabies Case of 2019
On Sunday November 17, 2019 at approximately 6:09pm Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement unit received a call from the 500 block of Texas Trail Dallas, NC 28034. The call was in reference to a possible rabid animal. A family dog fought with and killed a skunk.
Animal Care and Enforcement Specialists investigated the incident. The deceased skunk was sent to the NC Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh. On Wednesday November 20, 2019 the skunk specimen tested positive for rabies.
The adult female Husky on Texas Trail Dallas, NC 28034 was vaccinated for rabies and received a rabies booster shot the following day.
Animal Care and Enforcement completed a neighborhood canvass in the area of Texas Trail Dallas, NC 28034 to notify the community of the positive rabies results and verify rabies vaccinations for family animals in the area.
Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement also notified Gaston County Department Health and Human Services to relay our case information, so they can complete their regular follow up investigation.
The Gaston County Police Department Animal Care and Enforcement unit stresses the importance of having a valid rabies vaccination for all of your pet’s health and safety as well as the health and safety of their owners and community.
This represents the fifteenth confirmed rabies case in Gaston County this year.
