Gaston County Police Respond to Assault By Pointing a Gun
On August 12, 2019 at 11:59 am, Gaston County Police Officers responded to 1310 Mayberry Rd, Dallas, NC to investigate a report that a female had pointed a firearm at her husband.
Officers met the husband and learned that Paula R. Walker, 58 years old, of 1310 Mayberry Road, Dallas, was alone inside the residence and possessed multiple firearms. Walker’s husband again told officers that she had threatened him with a firearm.
Attempts to investigate and follow-up at the residence were met with gunshots from Walker who was still inside. Walker refused commands to come out. One officer returned fire with a single shot. During the course of the encounter, Walker continued to fire numerous times out from the residence. Neither Walker nor any officers were struck with gunshots.
The Gaston County Police Emergency Response Team arrived. Negotiations were attempted with Walker for well over an hour in an attempt to get her to exit the residence. Eventually chemical munitions were introduced and this caused Walker to come out. She was taken into custody without any further incident. No one was injured during the incident.
This is an on-going investigation. As part of the investigation, the involved officer’s name is not being released.
Mrs. Walker has been charged with 4 counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill.
