Police Stop Runaway Boat on Lake Wylie
On Sunday July 28th, 2019 at approximately 8:46 am, Gaston County Communications received a call about a runaway boat on Lake Wylie near Armstrong Rd. in Belmont, NC.
The report was that an operator of a small boat had fallen out into the water while his boat continued running in a circular pattern, endangering boaters and docks in the vicinity. The driver of the boat was not injured and the Gaston County Police Marine Enforcement Unit was dispatched. When officers arrived on scene they found the boat still circling out of control. After several attempts to safely get in position, Officer D. Hord was able to jump onto and gain control of the 13 foot fishing boat while it was still moving. The boat was subsequently returned unharmed to the owner, Jeffrey Lynch of Gastonia.
