Police Make Arrests in Homicide UPDATE
At 12:20pm on December 22, 2017, Gaston County Police responded to the end of Sawbill Ln, Gastonia, NC to investigate the report of a body found on the roadside in the Mallard Crossing neighborhood off Crowders Creek Rd. Officers located a male and determined that he was deceased. The scene is a paved road that has yet to be developed with houses and the body was found by a resident of the neighborhood.
Detectives investigating the case have identified the victim as Miguel Angel Valle Romero, 28 years old of Charlotte, NC. Further details surrounding cause of death cannot be released at this time. The investigation has led to a First Degree Murder charge filed for the arrest of Doris Maribel Alvarado-Peraza, age 27 of Charlotte, NC. Alvarado Peraza was an acquaintance of Romero.
Also charged in the homicide of Romero are Maynor Hernan Ortega, age 33 and Elmer Alexander Lopez, age 31, both of Charlotte, NC.
On Friday, January 5, 2018 Alvarado-Peraza and Ortega were arrested in Jeff Davis County, Georgia, where they remain incarcerated awaiting extradition back to Gaston County, NC. On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, Lopez was arrested in Charlotte at a residence in the 5800 block of Orr Rd. by Gaston County Police detectives with the assistance of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. All three were arrested without incident.
