In 1977, the Board of County Commissioners by ordinance, created the County Planning Board to conduct the following activities:
- Conduct studies of Gaston County and surrounding areas, as directed;
- Determine objectives in the development of the study area;
- Develop and recommend policies, ordinances and or/procedures for land use planning;
- Review and recommend periodic changes to the Comprehensive Plan.
The Board has been charged with the enforcement of the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The Board serves as an advisory board to the Commissioners on a number of planning related matters.
The Planning Board meets the second Monday of the month at 6:00 PM at the Gaston County Administration Offices Building, Third Floor Conference Room, 128 West Main Avenue, Gastonia.
