Dan Ziehm joined Gaston County Government in 2008 as the Assistant Director of Public Works. Dan was named Public Works Director in January 2021. Prior to joining Gaston County, Dan managed the construction division of a private commercial real estate development firm in Charlotte. He also served as the Assistant Director of Project Management with UNC Charlotte's Capital Planning and Construction Group.
Dan holds an A.S. in Mathematics from Hudson Valley Community College and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UNC Charlotte and maintains a NC Professional Engineer license. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), American Public Works Association (APWA), the Gaston County Safety Committee, and is the ADA liaison for Gaston County Public Works. Dan also has been certified by the APWA as a Public Works Professional with a concentration in management.
Dan's many accomplishments with Gaston County include managing the design and construction of the Highland Health Center, the High Shoals Sewer Interconnect, and the new Animal Care and Enforcement facility.
Dan has a daughter in college. Dan enjoys cooking and baking for friends and family. He is also an avid swimmer.
