Chief Joseph Ramey has been with the Gaston County Police Department for 28 years. He is currently serving as Chief of Gaston County Police Department, which also includes the 911 Communications Center and Animal Care & Enforcement. He previously served as Assistant Chief Support Services, Captain Criminal Investigations, Patrol Captain, Sergeant Support Services, Sergeant Criminal Investigations, Patrol Sergeant, Community Police Officer, and Patrol Officer.
Chief Joseph Ramey’s education consists of MBA from Gardner-Webb University, BS Criminal Justice University North Carolina at Charlotte, and AS Criminal Justice from Gaston College. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy class 257 and N. C. State Administrative Officer’s Management Program class 50. He is a certified General Instructor through NC Police Training and Standards Commission.
Chief Joseph Ramey is a member of Parkwood Baptist Church Gastonia where previously served as a deacon. He has served on the Board of Directors for Red Cross of Gaston County, Partners Behavioral Health, Partnership for Children, and Least of These Carolinas. He is the current Chairman of Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and Gaston Controlled Substance Coalition. He is also a member of Gastonia Rotary Club. Chief Ramey is married to Dr. Joy Cole and has one son Aaron age 13.
