Kim Johnson is a lifelong resident of Gaston County. She graduated from Hunter Huss High School and received an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Gaston College.
She retired from the Gaston County Sheriff's Office on January 1, 2020, as the first female Chief Deputy. Through the years she served on many boards; Alliance for Children and Youth, South YMCA, and Caromont Care Advocate Committee.
Although she has retired, she still plays an active role in law enforcement and detention. She remains on the NC Joint Criminal Justice and Sheriff's Training Committee, JAIL Advisory leadership group, and Job Task Analysis (JTA) Committee for detention officers.
She lives in Gastonia with her husband Gary and son Nic.
