On Saturday, June 16th, 2023 The Gaston County Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted an opioid drug trafficking operation. Three pounds of Fentanyl as well as three pounds of methamphetamine were seized during the operation with a total street value of $270,000.
Miguel Angel Hernandez-Reyes, a Mexican National, was charged with numerous drug trafficking charges and resisting public officer. Hernandez-Reyes is currently in custody and held without bond at the Gaston County Jail.
Cities and towns all over the country are facing an opioid epidemic, as well as a surge of Fentanyl mixed drugs – including cocaine and counterfeit pills.
Gaston County Police SIU detectives have worked diligently along with local, state and federal agencies to curb the large quantity of opioids trafficked in and around Gaston County in order to help make our community safer.
