Statement from Gaston County Police Chief Stephen M. Zill:
We’d like to provide you with an update on what we know so far regarding the shooting of three individuals last night near the intersection of April Drive and Greer Street in a neighborhood south of Gastonia’s city limits.
At 7:44 p.m. yesterday, Gaston County 911 received a call about a man firing a gun outside of homes in this neighborhood. In the course of our investigation, our investigation determined the shooter to be 24-year-old Robert Louis Singletary, of Gastonia.

Overnight, our detectives secured warrants for Mr. Singletary on four counts of attempted first degree murder, 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and 1 count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
One adult victim in this case remains hospitalized in Charlotte and we are in prayer for his continued recovery. The juvenile that was shot as well as the second adult that was grazed by a bullet have been treated and released.
The search for Mr. Singletary continues. Anyone with information about his whereabouts or about last night’s incident is asked to call 911 or Detective Brienza at 704-866-3320. You can also leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
I want to say to the people of Gaston County – this sort of violence will not stand. We conducted a large-scale search overnight for Mr. Singletary and we have partnered with the United States Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force to aid us as we continue to search.
My number one priority as chief is to make sure each and every one of our citizens is safe. Every person in every part of our county deserves that same opportunity, and it is our priority to make that a reality.
