GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – The North Carolina Cooperative Extension – Gaston County Center will host its popular ‘Med Instead of Meds’ workshop series beginning in January 2023. The workshop focuses on the Mediterranean Diet and teaches the health benefits of eating the “Med way.”
The Mediterranean Diet, or the “Med way,” reﬂects a way of eating that is traditional in the countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea and includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, nuts, seeds, and olive oil and limits highly processed foods and added sugar. It has been extensively studied and is associated with promoting health and decreasing the risk of many chronic diseases including some forms of cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
The workshop will be held at First United Methodist Church of Stanley, 5481 Hickory Grove Rd., Stanley, NC. Sessions will be held on Thursdays, January 19 – February 23, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. There is a $10 registration fee for participants that covers the cost of all six sessions.
