In 1976, Captain Don King of the Gaston County Police Department, organized active community watches in Gaston County into an association, which at that time numbered over one hundred active community watches. This Association was the first of its kind to be formed in the United States and it still serves community watches in Gaston County.
The Gaston County Community Watch Association, Inc. meets the third Thursday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. Guest speakers at these meetings bring information to the watches concerning crime trends, crime prevention ideas, and any other information that is applicable to the needs of the watches. Gaston County Police Community Service officers attend these meetings to provide up to date crime data to the watches.
This Association is open for membership to any active community watch in Gaston County. This organization exists to provide an organized flow of information and support for individual community watches. Regular newsletters are circulated to members of the Association.
