Plastics

Only Plastic bottles and jugs are accepted for recycling. Plastics that have a neck: the top is more narrow than the base can be put in the bin. No plastic shells, plastic boxes, yogurt-like containers can enter bins. Plastic bags and films can be recycled at most grocery stores. Accepted at all sites.

Cartons

Cartons are no longer accepted. Please place in household trash.

Newspaper

Newspapers and inserts only, please. Please remove twine and bags before recycling. Accepted at all sites.

Cardboard

Corrugated cardboard only, please. (Look for the wavy line between 2 flat sheets). No cereal boxes, plastic wrap, or Styrofoam. Please flatten cardboard before recycling. Accepted at all sites.

Mixed Paper

Mixed paper is now accepted in the newspaper container! What is the accepted mixed paper?

Magazines, Paperboard boxes (cereal, Kleenex-type), junk mail. Absolutely no box liners, plastic bags, paperback books, wrapping paper, fast-food wrappers, or food waste! We can only offer this service if this container remains free from contamination.

Glass

Glass bottles and jars only in glass recycling. No lids! Steel cans are now recycled with scrap metal! No Pyrex or plate glass. Accepted at all sites.

Steel Food Cans

Accepted at all sites in scrap metal bins.

Aluminum

All clean aluminum including cans, pans, and containers. Must be free of food waste. Accepted at all sites.

Automobile Batteries

Lead-acid batteries from cars, boats, and lawnmowers. Other types of batteries can be taken to the Gaston County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center for recycling. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Tires

Limit of 5 tires per person per day. Tires must be off the rim and must be from passenger vehicles (cars, vans, motorcycles, etc.). Tires left on rims will cost $3 each. Larger numbers of tires must be brought directly to the landfill. Please call 704-922-0267 for an appointment. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Electronics and TVs

$4 charge per TV and computer monitor. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Computer Equipment

Computers and peripherals (printers, scanners, mice, keyboards, etc.) are accepted for recycling. There is a $4 charge per monitor. All other computer equipment is accepted for free. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Scrap Metal

Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Appliances (White Goods)

Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke.

Used Oil

Motor, hydraulic, transmission, diesel fuel, and kerosene. Limit of 5 gallons per person per day. Larger quantities from your home should be taken to the Gaston County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Cooking Oil

Cooking oil is only accepted at the Gaston County Landfill. Also accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste collection events.

Used Antifreeze

Limit of 5 gallons per person per day. Larger quantities from your home should be taken to the Gaston County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Yard Debris

Includes tree branches, grass clippings, brush, leaves, etc. Materials must be removed from bags before recycling. There is a $4 to $8 charge depending on load size. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.

Batteries

Automobile and rechargeable only. Accepted at all sites except Farmers Market and Duke Street.
