Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network. CoCoRaHs is a citizen science project perfect for your classroom! Especially suited to the curriculum in Grades K, 2, 5, and 7, participation in CoCoRaHs involves the installation of a reasonably-priced, scientific rain gage and regular monitoring of precipitation on your school grounds. Precipitation amounts are submitted online at the CoCoRaHs website and are compiled into more detailed precipitation data than would otherwise be possible without the help of volunteers like you. This data is used by a variety of organizations and individuals including but not limited to meteorologists, hydrologists, city utilities, and The National Weather Service. If you are interested in participating in this program, let us know how we can support you at Gaston Natural Resources. We are happy to help walk you through use of the website or can provide an interactive program on Gaston County weather for your classroom. We can also help with installation. Contact Erin Hines for more information.
