Boards & Committees
Serving on a Commission appointed board (advisory board, committee, commission, or task force) is a substantial and meaningful opportunity for citizens to participate in the governance of Gaston County and to contribute their time, talents, and expertise to their community. The Board of Commissioners relies on the valuable insight provided by its more than 500 volunteer members, which help guide and support the County's policies and programs and shape the quality of life enjoyed by our citizens.
Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute, the Board of County Commissioners appoints members to various boards. Some are required and established under state law, while others are created under the authority of the County Commission. Certain positions require specific representation, skills, and/or training as specified by State or local policy. The Clerk to the Board of Commissioners is responsible for the administration of the appointment process.
Any citizen of Gaston County is eligible to serve on any Commission-appointed board unless otherwise specified by state statute or local policy. Reappointments are not guaranteed and are processed in the same manner as new appointments.
Click on the link above to apply online or contact the Clerk to the Board at 704-866-3196 if you have questions or require assistance. All applications are submitted to the Board of Commissioners for consideration and appointments/reappointments are made monthly at BOC meetings.
