County Police Donates No Shave Money

Don't Shave DecemberOfficers with the Gaston County Police Department participated in ‘No Shave November’ and transitioned the event into ‘Don’t Shave December’.  Officers paid $25 per month for the privilege of being temporarily exempted from the department’s grooming policy.

Over 50 officers took part in the fund raising effort, which netted a total of $2350.  The money has been evenly distributed to the Gaston County chapter of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program and the Gaston County DHHS ‘Gaston Gives’ program.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.  The program was founded in 1947 and has collected and delivered over 500 million toys.  For more information about the Toys for Tots program, please visit the Toys for Tots web-site at http://www.toysfortots.org/.

‘Gaston Gives’ is a program created by the DHHS to assist foster children and children served by Child Protective Services.  For more information about ‘Gaston Gives’ please call Brittain Kenney, DHHS, at (704) 853-5139.
