Gaston County Has 2nd Confirmed Rabies Case of 2018
On Thursday 7/26/2018 the Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement Division received a call from The Pet Hospital, 501 East Virginia Avenue, Bessemer City NC 28016. The veterinarian staff reported a sick two month old male kitten being sick.
Animal Care and Enforcement Specialists investigated the incident and impounded the kitten. The kitten was processed for rabies testing and was sent to the NC Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh. The official laboratory results were received on July 30, 2018. The kitten tested positive for rabies.
The Gaston County Department of Health and Human Services was notified since employees at The Pet Hospital treated the sick kitten. Gaston County Police Animal Care and Enforcement is working with Cabarrus County Animal Control on this case, since the Animal Owner lives in Cabarrus County, NC 28025.
The Gaston County Police Department Animal Care and Enforcement Division stresses the importance of having a valid rabies vaccination for all of your pet’s health and safety as well as the health and safety of their owners and community.
This represents the second confirmed rabies case in Gaston County this year.
