Shooting Investigation Leads to Murder Charge
On Saturday, November 11, 2017, Gaston County Police responded to the 4500 block of Dawnwood Dr, near Gastonia, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Patrick Shawn Schneider, 25, of 4505 Dawnwood Dr, laying in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers began first aid efforts and Schneider was transported by Gaston Emergency Medical Services to Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia but was pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined the shooting was a result of a dispute with a neighbor who was identified as Gregory Howard Town, 59, of 4509 Dawnwood Dr. Schneider and Town are next door neighbors with a history of disputes, with today’s events apparently stemming from the parking of cars in the street in front of Town’s residence.
Town was taken into custody at his residence without incident where a handgun was also recovered. There were no other weapons recovered at the scene. Town is in the Gaston County Jail with no bond charged with one count of First Degree Murder.
The charges in this case were obtained at the conclusion of several interviews and consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.
There are currently no other suspects being sought.
Investigation is ongoing and no further details can be released at this time though anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Gaston County Police Department at 704-866-3320, or Crime Stoppers at 704-861-8000.
