Gaston County Parks and Recreation offers fishing in three of our parks free of charge. Fishing is available at Dallas Park, George Poston Park, and South Fork River Park. While fishing is free, adults and children ages 16 and older are required to have a valid NC fishing license; children under the age of 16 may fish without a NC license. All fish must be caught using a hook and line; net fishing is prohibited. Persons fishing in Gaston County Park lakes may only keep (5) largemouth bass, caught in a single day’s fishing. Two (2) of these largemouth bass may be smaller than 14 inches in length, the other (3) fish must be 14 inches or larger. All excess largemouth bass must be immediately returned unharmed to the park lakes. Gaston County Parks and Recreation in collaboration with the NC Fish and Wildlife Commission offers a free fishing tackle loaner program to children under the age of 16. This programs allows children under 16 to checkout a fishing rod and tackle box for single day use from the Gaston County Parks and Recreation office Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-4pm.
