Apparitions: Photograph by Paul Culver

Print

Opening January 18 and running through March 31, 2012 at the Gaston County Museum’s bull pen is Apparitions: Photography by Paul Culver.  This show will include pieces that have been created using trick photography and digital art. Culver’s images evoke an eerie sense of wonder from the viewer.

Artist Bio:

Antique GhostPaul Culver has always seen things a little bit differently than most people. As a child he always wondered why he could not pay attention like the other children. As an adult he now realizes that he does pay attention, just to different things most people don’t seem to see. “Everything that I look at is potentially my next piece of art. I love the expression on people’s faces when I ask them if I can photograph their ordinary hallway, or the inside of their old abandoned church where the ceiling has caved in. But when I show them the finished product, that is when the look on their faces is priceless!” Paul loved creating his Apparitions series and has already come up with several more pieces for his next exhibit. “The world of art and photography is a competitive one! There are photographers everywhere, but one thing I am confident about is that people have never seen anything like this!”

Artist Statement:

“I have really enjoyed creating my Apparitions exhibit, and I still am adding pieces to it. There are always new ideas coming to mind. People always look at me very strangely when they see me working on one, and eventually approach me and ask what I am doing. When I tell them that I am creating an apparition, they look at me like I'm crazy. But then I show them on my camera and they always want to know how I am doing it!”
