Beginning on April 16 and continuing through April 30, the Gaston County Police Department will team up with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for Operation Litter Sweep. During this time County officers will assist the Highway Patrol in this campaign by stepping up patrols around the Gaston County Landfill that focus on littering violations and vehicles that have failed to secure their loads.
According to N.C. General Statute 14-116(g), a violator can be charged for failing to secure a load to prevent it from falling, blowing, dropping, sifting, or otherwise escaping from a vehicle or trailer. According to N.C. General Statute 14-399(a), someone who intentionally or recklessly allows litter to be blown, thrown, scattered, spilled, placed, or disposed of upon public or private property is guilty of a class 3 misdemeanor and carries fines up to $1,000.00.
Please do your part to help keep Gaston County roads clean and free of trash by covering and securing your loads.
