Long Range Planning Services

Staff provides background and professional recommendations regarding current and long range land use matters and other planning review agency policy comments to the Planning Board, and Board of Commission to help them make informed recommendations and decisions. Long Range Planning accomplishes this work through three (3) Disciplines. A sample of the work discipline is provided below:

Cultural & Environmental

Support of the County Historic Preservation Commission
Assist Transportation Planning through the MPO
Support of the Board of Adjustment
Support of downtown revitalization efforts and downtown planning

Support of the Mountain Island Lake Work Group

Comprehensive Planning & Implementation

Preparation of area plans
Assist with Map Amendments (Rezoning Request)
Assist with Text Amendments
Special Area Planning
Administer with Subdivision Review
Support of Gaston County and Municipal Planners (GCaMP) Group
Development of Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)
Administer Minimum Housing Ordinance

Design & Development Review

Assistance with evaluation and processing of rezoning request, and other land use proposals requiring Planning Board recommendation
Evaluation and processing of all planning related public information forms such as rezoning applications, and information brochures.
